BILL BATES, CEO


Bill Bates is CEO and founder of Life Appreciation Training Seminars. Since the origins of Life Appreciation in 1974 he has been a leading figure in the movement to personalize American funeral practices.

Life Appreciation Training Seminars, headquartered in Miami, Florida was founded in 1974 as a result of a four-year research project into "reactions to loss and the American Funeral", conducted by Bill under the auspices of The University of Oregon.

Life Appreciation Training, annually conducts approximately 100 weekend Life Appreciation Training Seminars teaching bereavement counseling skills, funeral director/client bonding skills, funeral interview skills and a funeral and pre-need personalization procedures for funeral directors, cemeterians and pre-need counselors throughout the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Bill grew up in funeral service in southern Oregon, was a licensed funeral director and embalmer by the age of twenty one, purchased his first funeral home at the age of 23 and directed the research project at the University of Oregon with Dr. Frances Scott, Director of the Center for Gerontology and Dr. Saul Toobert, Director of the University of Oregon Counseling Department from 1970 until late 1974.

He authored the Life Appreciation Manual for Funeral Directors, The Commandant and his new book The Life Appreciation Training Manual is expected to be released in the fall of 2003.

He has pioneered numerous innovative loss management therapies, including the Life Appreciation Six Step Loss Management Program, "suppressed loss" as the pre-disposing cause of co-dependency and the three primary behaviors of "suppressed loss". Today, millions have benefited from the practice of his discoveries through his professional and general public workshops.

His unique funeral interview and funeral personalization procedures are practiced by thousand of funeral professionals.
